The Latin American and Iberian Institute hosts an information and application session for the Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowship on Wednesday, Dec. 5 from noon to 1 p.m. at the LAII Reading Room, 801 Yale NE.
The call for applications is for U.S. Department of Education academic year and summer FLAS fellowships, which the FLAS Academic Year fellowship support training in Portuguese, K'iche' Maya and Quechua, and provides tuition and fees (12 credits for graduate students; 12 credits for undergraduate students) for the fall and spring semesters, plus a stipend of $15,000 for graduate students or $5,000 for undergraduates. Fellowships are awarded on a one-year basis.
The FLAS Summer fellowship provides the majority of program fees for intensive study of a less-commonly-taught Latin American language at a FLAS-eligible program in the U.S. or Latin America. Such languages include Brazilian Portuguese, K'iche' Maya, Quechua as well as other indigenous languages.
