The University of New Mexico Latin American & Iberian Institute Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) fellowship deadline for both the 2015-16 Academic Year and the 2015 Summer fellowship is Friday, Feb. 6 at 5 p.m. Full-time UNM students, graduate or undergraduate in any discipline who are focusing on the study of Latin America may apply.
The FLAS academic year fellowship supports training in Portuguese, K'iche' Maya and Quechua. Providing tuition and fees for the fall and spring semesters, a $15,000 stipend for graduate students and $5,000 for undergrads. Receivers of the academic year FLAS fellowships are required to take courses at UNM in K'iche' Maya, Portuguese or Quechua as well as Latin American area studies courses.
Summer fellowships cover the less-commonly-taught language programs approved by the U.S. Department of Education but administered by universities across the United States and others in Latin America.
