The UNM Latin American and Iberian Institute (LAII) will host University of California-Davis Professor Julie Witcover on Friday, Feb. 22 from 2:30-4 p.m. as part of LAII's "Friday Seminar Series." The seminar will be held in the Economics building, room 1052.
Witcover, an assistant project scientist in the Institute of Transportation Studies at UC-Davis, will discuss "Biofuel Land Use Change: Using Models to Illuminate Policy Options' Impacts."
Her presentation will address the possibilities for model-based evaluation of land use change policy design options using economic equilibrium simulation models. It also looks at the options for a policy framework for addressing global land use changes in three areas.
- Promoting feedstocks that rely less on land.
- Reducing land use change risk for land-using feedstocks.
- Stimulating investments that increase land productivity and environmental protection.
Witcover holds an M.A. from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies in Latin American Studies as well as International Economics and an A.B. in Government from Harvard University.
