Reynaldo Macias presents,"Entre el Dicho y el Hecho: Xican@ Studies in 50 Years," on Thursday, Feb. 28 from 4 - 5:30 p.m. in the Ortega Hall Reading Room 335 on the University of New Mexico campus. Katarina Sandoval, Principal of South Valley Academy and recipient of the 2003 recipient of the Milken Educator Award, will deliver the welcome.

Macias is chair of the Department of Applied Linguistics at the University of California, Los Angeles. He is a faculty member and former chair of the Department of Chican@ Studies and the Cesar E. Chávez Center for Interdisciplinary Instruction at UCLA. In 1996, President Clinton appointed Macias to the Advisory Board for the National Institute for Literacy.

This event honors the recently established bachelor's degree program in Chicana and Chicano Studies.
