Sincere thanks to our colleagues from the UNM Retirees Association who have been relentless in staying on top of everything happening day, night and on weekends in Senate Finance. They were on hand late Thursday afternoon when SFC considered SB 115, the Senate version of ERB solvency. As expected, the bill was amended to reduce the COLA for current and future retirees - by 10 percent for those earning less than the median (approx. $19,000) and working 25 years, and by 20 percent for all others who worked less than 25 years or who earn more than the median.

We're told the bill as amended passed with little debate. It now goes to the Senate. Remember that the full House passed HB 64, the ERB solvency plan developed by the stakeholders, without amendment.

The full Senate finally moved on solvency legislation today (Thursday, March 7), passing both the PERA solvency plan as amended and the judicial retirement plan. Now we wait to see if Senate Finance takes up the ERB solvency plan as scheduled. It is anticipated there will be attempts to amend SB 115 by cutting the COLA.

On Friday, the Senate is scheduled to be back on the floor at 10:30 a.m. with the House following at 11 a.m.
