Little Lobo Wish Fund

The University of New Mexico Dean of Students Office and Children’s Campus are sponsoring a Little Lobo Holiday Wish Fund this winter to help bring joy to some of our student parents this holiday season. The goal is to raise $10,000 to provide 100 Lobo families with $100 gift cards.

Student parents make up about 22% of college campus populations nationwide. Many student parents make sacrifices to support themselves and their families through the financial aid and loans they receive, along with the hours they work when not in class or with their children. The Little Lobo Holiday Wish Fund aims to ease the burden some of our UNM student parents may feel this time of year.

“Little Lobos was started to honor and support all of our students who are also parents and managing two extremely important jobs,” said Nasha Torrez, UNM dean of students. “My mom was a single mom who got her Master’s at UNM while raising my sister and I, I know first-hand what a huge difference this will make in showing some love to all the children who cheer on their parents as they work to advance the family through continued education.”

UNM supports its student parents through various services including childcare at the UNM Children’s Campus, lactation stations, family-friendly computer pods, student-led workshops, SNAP application assistance and free counseling and confidential advisory through the Women’s Resource Center.

Giving now to the Little Lobo Holiday Wish Fund through Monday, Dec. 11 ensures our UNM student parents will have time to purchase that special gift for their child(ren). Visit the Little Lobo Holiday Wish Fund to make a donation.
