The University of New Mexico is giving people a glimpse of just some of the experiences the Land of Enchantment has to offer UNM students beyond the classroom. It’s called “The Lobo Life,” and it was recently unveiled through a new website and Instagram (@TheLoboLife) account.

According to its website, The Lobo Life aims to “create a place to showcase all of the experiences that bring us together while pushing us out of our comfort zones.” The site is filled with pictures and videos depicting popular and beautiful New Mexico destinations as well as local Albuquerque hangouts. The point is not to just tell people about what the state has to offer, but to show them.

“The Lobo Life compliments our institutional branding campaign in a wonderful way,” said University Marketing Director Argy Maniatis. “It helps highlight the adventures our students experience along with celebrating our beautiful state.”

Student explorers have ventured to outdoor wonders like White Sands National Monument, mountain biking trails in the Sandia Mountains, Abiquiu Lake and Albuquerque’s Bosque, just to name a few. The site explores the beauty and adventure waiting to be discovered across New Mexico through the lens’ of UNM student photographers.

"Part of what I love about going to school here are all of the amazing adventures waiting to be had in any direction at any time of year,” said Josh Lane, UNM sophomore and photographer for The Lobo Life. “And this website is an awesome way to highlight that.”

The idea is to show people what UNM and the state have to offer, hopefully dispelling preconceived notions about what it means to live in the southwest.

The Lobo Life, managed by University Communication & Marketing, also features popular New Mexico tourist attractions like the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta and Santa Fe’s interactive art museum Meow Wolf. Visitors can also find unique places to eat and drink around Albuquerque.

Directing its attention toward student interest, the site includes a Google Maps pin of each destination along with distance from the University. Additionally, it provides price ranges for each adventure, giving students on a budget the chance to explore with ease. Those who experience an adventure featured on the Lobo Life site can leave a review letting other adventurers know what their experience was like.

"Our goal is to foster an adventure community for students by students. We want people to get involved by using #thelobolife and to share it with their friends,” said Lane. “There is so much to explore here beyond our campus, it would be a mistake not to showcase that.”

Students can keep up with Lobo Life on Instagram by following @TheLoboLife and using the hashtag #thelobolife for a chance to be featured. Those who are interested in submitting a Lobo Life adventure to become an official Lobo Life explorer can fill out the application.
