Lobo Development Corporation, on behalf of the Regents of the University of New Mexico, is in negotiations with 54 Development LLC for development of the first phase of the Sports and Entertainment District at UNM’s South Campus.

54 Development is a partnership between local developer Paul Silverman, local businessman and entrepreneur Steven B. Chavez in collaboration with Lobo Football legend and future NFL Hall of Fame linebacker Brian Urlacher.

54 Development has proposed a 27,000 mixed-use development that will feature “54 Sports Grill,” a 10,000-square-foot sports grill. This project may also include multiple restaurants, a micro-brewery, coffee shop and sports-oriented retail. The proposed project is located at the southeast corner of Avenida Cesar Chavez and University Boulevard, immediately west of Branch Field at University Stadium.

“The preliminary design concept presented by the 54 Development team and prepared by local architectural firm Dekker Perich Sabitini is very exciting and will reshape South Campus,” said Tom Neale, UNM director of Real Estate and director of Financial Transactions for Lobo Development.

“This project will represent the first major step in realizing the University’s goal of establishing a vibrant entertainment district at our South Campus,” Neale said. “The 54 Development team has decades of experience and a proven record of success with commercial development in our marketplace. They have the ability to execute on the vision.”

“Opportunities of this magnitude don’t happen often," Chavez said. "The 54 Development team is humbled and elated to further explore this unique project, together with the Lobo Development Corporation and UNM leadership,”

Details of this potential public-private partnership will not be available until negotiations are complete. The project and terms of the partnership must be approved by the Lobo Development Corporation Board of Directors and the Board of Regents.
