About Johnson Center:
Built in 1957, Johnson Center was the heart of main campus and the original home of UNM Lobo Basketball until The Pit opened in 1966. Today, Johnson Center is home court for the UNM Lobo Volleyball team. In 2018, a full renovation project began to provide more access to sports and recreation for students, faculty, staff and alumni. Funded by student fees, the $35 million project was completed in March 2020. Some of the new and renovated amenities include:

  • An indoor running and walking track
  • Expanded weight and cardio rooms
  • An indoor cycling studio
  • New east entrance with lobby and social spaces
  • Renovated South Gym
  • Additional bathrooms and the remodeling of existing ones
