The University of New Mexico Alumni Association hosts Lobo Living Room “Baseball, the National Pastime” from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 27, on Lobo Field located at 1155 Avenida Cesar Chavez, SE.

Join fellow alums and community members for an interactive evening that includes UNM Honors College Professor Ryan Swanson and UNM Lobos Baseball Coach Ray Birmingham sharing their love of the game and the history of the sport through fun facts and baseball trivia.

This Lobo Living Room takes place on Lobo Field, with Swanson delivering a presentation about the historical significance of the baseball to the United States. Birmingham will conclude the event with a presentation at sunset as the stadium lights come on.

Lobo Living Room “Baseball, the National Pastime,” is a family friendly event with on-field activities for the kids and those young at heart. Bring the whole family out for a picnic reception with hot dogs, chips and drinks as well as an abundance of activities, including:

  • Running the bases
  • Tracking your pitch speed with radar
  • Playing catch with UNM Baseball players
  • Getting UNM Baseball players’ autographs
  • View the UNM Baseball facility, including the batting cage

UNM baseball players will be demonstrating pitching styles – screwballs, change ups, curve balls, sliders, and cutters – and will be available to throw and catch with the kids and sign autographs.

There will be door prizes for those who attend this Lobo Living Room, including the chance to win the opportunity to throw out the first pitch at a UNM Baseball game.

Lobo Living Room is a free event, but an RSVP is encouraged by visiting Lobo Living Room or calling (505) 277-5808.
