Students and faculty members interested in leasing a communal apartment in Lobo Village can now sign up at the Student Union Building's lower level. The apartments, which are located on the South Campus just west of the Pit, have four individual bedrooms with private bathrooms, a communal living area, kitchen and washer/dryers.
The apartments will be available for move-in next August. Students must be at least sophomores in order to lease a space, and graduate students and faculty members are welcome. The monthly rent for the apartments is $499 per person and the leases are for 12 months.
There will be 864 beds in the complex. Property manager Brent McPherson says water and internet are provided, but electric bills are the responsibility of the residents. The apartments are fully furnished, and samples of the furnishings can be seen at the leasing office in the SUB. McPherson says he has around 100 applications pending.
American Campus Communities, the company that is building and leasing the apartments, plans a sales kick-off event on Wednesday, October 20. ACC is building and leasing the apartments under a ground lease from UNM.
This is the first phase of an improved campus housing plan. The Lobo Development Corporation and ACC are currently holding open workshops about new residential dorms now being planned for freshmen on the main campus. The next workshop will be on Thursday, Oct. 21 at 4 p.m. in the Plaza Atrium at the SUB.
