The University of New Mexico Division for Equity and Inclusion hosts the 4th Annual Luminaria Awards on Friday, Nov. 8 at 11 a.m. in the Student Union Building Ballroom A and B. The Luminaria Awards recognize individuals and organizations that light the path in areas of diversity, equity, inclusion or social justice. Their commitment can be evident in recruitment and retention of underrepresented groups; teaching, research and/or service; multicultural or cultural awareness programming; social justice organizing, community outreach or other similar activities.
 
The following recipients will be honored in these categories:
 
·      Faculty Award: Dr. Cynthia Arndell, associate professor, Department of Internal Medicine, UNM Health Sciences Center and Antoinette Sedillo-Lopez, JD, professor of law, UNM School of Law
·      Staff Award: Veronica Mendez-Cruz, Director, El Centro de la Raza (Retired) & Dr. Don Trahan, Student Health and Counseling and African American Student Services
·      Student Award: Marisa Silva and Claudia Mitchell
·      Community Organization Award: Southwest Creations

The 4th Annual Luminaria Awards feature Keynote Speaker Derald Wing Sue, author of the book, Microaggressions in Everyday Life: Race, Gender, and Sexual Orientation; and Professor of Psychology and Education in the Department of Counseling and Clinical Psychology at Teachers College and the School of Social Work, Columbia University.
