UNM Art Education and Masley Art Gallery presents an opening reception for its new exhibition, Contemporary New Mexican Papermakers, Friday, Oct. 25 from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibition will feature Stephanie Lerma, Tender; Martie Zelt, Peach Walking; and Shirley Levy, Brown Pool, Blue Pool. The exhibition continues through Wednesday, Nov. 6 at Masley Gallery located in Masley Hall on UNM’s main campus.
The exhibition also highlights the work of eight New Mexican artists working in the medium of hand-made paper. The exhibition features a large cross-section of forms that handmade paper might take, including artists books, pulp paintings, marbled papers and sculptural work.
The exhibition will also include pieces of handmade paper from the collection of Tom Leech, director of the Palace Press. The sheets come from all over the world including China, Japan, Nepal and Tibet, highlighting regional techniques and fibers, and original methods of early papermaking.
