McLaughlin is a UNM Regents Professor and currently serves as Vice Chair for Education within the department, and as Interim Associate Dean for Continuing Medical Education and Simulation within the School of Medicine.

"Steve McLaughlin brings tremendous experience and enthusiasm to the Department of Emergency Medicine," offers UNM Health Sciences Center Chancellor Paul Roth. "We look forward to his leadership style and proven abilities enriching this critical role within UNM Hospitals and UNM's School of Medicine."

McLaughlin, who is board-certified in Emergency Medicine, received his M.D. from Mayo Medical School and completed his Emergency Medicine residency at UNM. Originally from Seattle, WA, McLaughlin has been in Albuquerque since 1995. His professional interests include education, human simulation, toxicology, wilderness medicine, airway management, procedural sedation, and oral hypoglycemic poisoning.

"UNM's Emergency Medicine Department produces great academic research, great clinical care and high-quality residency graduates," McLaughlin states. "It's a fantastic environment for advancing our missions in New Mexico."
