Each year, two programs make it their mission to prepare undergraduate students for admission into graduate school to pursue master’s and doctoral degrees.

The McNair Scholars and the Research Opportunity Program (ROP) are currently seeking applicants for their 2020-2021 cohorts. These programs offer students, who are eligible, the opportunity to conduct faculty-mentored research. They also help support students during the graduate application process.

The deadline to apply is Monday, April 6. Some of the benefits include a summer research stipend of up to $2,800, paid travel opportunities, GRE prep courses and graduate school application fee waivers.

Undergraduate students with at least 60 credits by fall 2020 and a 3.0 cumulative GPA are encouraged to apply. Other eligibility requirements are listed on the application. Between the two programs, 18-25 new scholars are accepted each year.

The McNair Scholars Program is a federal TRIO program funded at nearly 190 institutions across the United States and Puerto Rico. ROP is funded by the NM State Legislature.
