This week on New Mexico in Focus, a special all-journalist Line opinion panel evaluates the recent legislative session and look at what passed and what failed, including what Gov. Susana Martinez may do with her veto pen. In addition, panelists discuss the Lottery scholarship, hospital indigent care funding and the failure of a new gaming compact with the Navajo Nation.
New Mexico in Focus airs Friday night at 7 p.m. on Channel 5.1 and appears online at NMiF shortly thereafter. The show rebroadcasts Saturday at 5 p.m. on Channel 9.1 and again on Sunday at 7 a.m. on Channel 5.1.
Also this week, the group delves into legislative topics "on the clock," including the outlook for the legislative elections later this year given how many lawmakers are not running again and NMiF producer Megan Kamerick talks gun violence and mental illness with Jeffrey Swanson, a medical sociologist from Duke University who delivered lectures this week through the IDEAS program at the University of New Mexico psychiatry department.
