New Mexico in Focus is New Mexico PBS’ prime-time news magazine show covering the events, issues, and people that are shaping life in New Mexico and the Southwest. New Mexico in Focus takes a multi-layered look at social, political, economic health, education and arts issues, and explores them in-depth with a critical eye to give them context beyond the "news of the moment."

For the weekend of July 27 – 29, New Mexico in Focus producer Sarah Gustavus sits down with Albuquerque Journal sports writer Geoff Grammer. Along with covering the UNM Lobos and their team scores, he has reported on financial troubles in the university’s Athletics Department. The UNM Board of Regents’ recent decision to cut four sports was unpopular with athletes and their community supporters. Grammer will talk about what he’s uncovered in his reporting and why the business of sports matters for all New Mexicans.

Host Gene Grant and the Line opinion panelists will also discuss reactions to the cut of four teams and ongoing financial troubles in the UNM Athletics Department.

New Mexico in Focus airs Fridays at 7 p.m. and repeats Sundays at 7 a.m. on Channel 5.1, and Saturdays at 5 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. on Channel 9.1, except during Pledge Drives. For more information, contact Evy Todd, Publicist/Station Relations. New Mexico PBS: 505-277-1218 or
