This week on New Mexico in Focus, the panel interviews several lawmakers as well as Hanna Skandera, education secretary designate, about teacher evaluation policies and class size. In addition, NMiF gets an overall legislative preview from state senators Tim Keller and Sue Wilson Beffort. The New Mexico Legislature convenes on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

New Mexico in Focus airs Friday night at 7 p.m. on Channel 5.1 and appears online at NMiF shortly thereafter. The show rebroadcasts Saturday at 5 p.m. on Channel 9.1 and again on Sunday at 7 a.m. on Channel 5.1.

Also this week, the Line panel looks at the Children, Youth and Families department, which has come under scrutiny after the death of a nine year old boy, as well as the ongoing shortages of health care professionals and latest developments surrounding the New Mexico health insurance exchange. Shortages are expected to grow even more acute as the Affordable Care Act expands the number of people who enroll in Medicaid, and as more people sign up for insurance on the state exchange.
