It was less than a year ago that voters tapped John Sanchez to be the state's newest Lt. Governor. But since that time, Sen. Jeff Bingaman made the decision to retire at the end of his current term. The unique circumstances were too much for Sanchez to pass up so he announced his decision to run for the republican nomination to replace Senator Bingaman. This week on New Mexico in Focus, Correspondent Gywneth Doland has a candid conversation with the Lt. Governor on his decision, how it affected his relationship with Gov. Susana Martinez, and the heated primary battle with former Congresswoman Heather Wilson.
KNME's one hour public affairs show New Mexico in Focus airs Fridays at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 6:30 a.m. on KNME, Channel 5.1. The show can also be seen on KNME's Digital Channel 9.1 on Saturdays at 5 p.m.
Also this week, it was a rare moment of agreement for U.S. Representatives Ben Ray Lujan and Steve Pearce. The Line panelists talk about why both men voted "no" on the debt ceiling deal, plus the repercussions of the compromise deal on the Land of Enchantment. Debate and discussion on the public vote for Albuquerque's "The Plan" will also be discussed as will the continued state of crisis with the Albuquerque Police Department.
