Presented in partnership with New Mexico PBS as part of the Bank of America Theatre Free Thursday Film Series, an excerpt from “The Vietnam War” will be shown at Thursday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. at the Bank of America Theater inside the National Hispanic Cultural Center located at 1701 4th St. SW.

The film focuses on personal stories rather than the history, politics or combat of the Vietnam War. This clip is designed to insight conversations and allow deeper, more personal dialogue. The film emphasizes the struggles of the veteran community from different generations as they come together to process their experiences of war and return.

After the screening audience members have the opportunity to share stories, talk about personal experiences and gather information from local veterans’ service providers. Staff from the Albuquerque Veteran Center will help facilitate conversation and will provide materials for Santa Fe as well.

Additionally, the film “New Mexico and the Vietnam War: Portrait of a Generation,” will be shown at 7 p.m. on Nov. 16, also at the Bank of America Theater.

The film is a series of short documentaries that focus on New Mexico’s diverse Vietnam War veterans, families and refugees whose lives were changed by the Vietnam War. These first-person accounts range from accounts of duty, honor, courage, sacrifice, loss and understanding. These are dramatic stories of honor, loss and renewal.

These films are a part of New Mexico PBS’ multi-year veteran’s initiative. The goal of the initiative is to expand content on-air and on-line in partnership with local, regional and national organizations. Through this initiative, they will provide a platform for veterans to share their stories, both in war and at home, along with giving civilians the opportunity to become aware of the challenges veterans and their families face coming home.
