The UNM Alumni Association is inviting Lobo alumni and community members to the Lobo Living Room: An Evening with Hakim Bellamy, Albuquerque poet laureate on Thursday, Jan. 25, in the Bobo Room at Hodgin Hall Alumni Center.

One of the state’s leading voices in the slam poetry community, Albuquerque’s first poet laureate is an actor, artist and a tireless advocate for the City’s creative community.

Bellamy holds a master's degree in communication from The University of New Mexico, is a proud father, and is the founding president of Beyond Poetry.

His poetry has been published in the Albuquerque Convention Center, on the outside of a library, in inner-city buses and in numerous anthologies across the globe. Bellamy was recognized as an honorable mention for The University of New Mexico Paul Bartlett Ré Peace Prize for his work as a community organizer and journalist in 2007, and was awarded the Emerging Creative Bravos Award by Creative Albuquerque in 2013. In 2014, Bellamy was named a W. K. Kellogg Foundation Fellow and was awarded the Food Justice Residency at Santa Fe Art Institute.

During the event, Bellamy will talk about his inspirations, his motivations and how he got to where he is today. Registration and reception begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by the presentation at 6:30 p.m.

RSVP by Tuesday, Jan. 23 by visiting the Alumni website. For additional information contact the Alumni Relations Office at 505-277-5808 or alumni@unm.edu.
