This week on New Mexico in Focus, correspondent Antonia Gonzales and producer Sarah Gustavus present the final story in the series “Reconnecting with a Healthy Lifestyle,” which examines grassroots efforts to help Native people find the support and resources they need to lead healthier lives. They examine how some communities use gardening and traditional foods to help families eat a healthy diet and get outdoor exercise.

Correspondent Laura Paskus takes us to the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge for a look behind the scenes at how managers maintain the habitat to support sandhill cranes, geese, and other wildlife. It’s the first segment in the new year of “Our Land,” NMiF’s monthly series on environmental issues in New Mexico.

Producer Sarah Gustavus also talks with Laura Paskus about her coverage of the U.S. Supreme Court case over water use in the Rio Grande. Paskus traveled to Washington D.C. to cover oral arguments from attorneys representing New Mexico, Colorado, Texas and the U.S.

NMiF host Gene Grant and the Line opinion panelists preview the upcoming legislative session that begins next week. They also discuss Mayor Keller’s concerns over issues with the Albuquerque Rapid Transit project, and voice their opinions on the water rights lawsuit.

The program airs Friday, Jan. 5 on New Mexico PBS, KNME 5.1 and repeats Sunday, Jan. 7 at 7 a.m. Watch New Mexico in Focus again online shortly thereafter.
