The University of New Mexico’s Physical Plant Department (PPD) is closing Yale Blvd., north of Lomas at the roundabout, to repave the roadway. The project will begin on Monday, June 6 and is estimated to be complete by June 23.

The work will include the removal of existing asphalt, installation of new base course material and asphalt, pavement markings and other minor signage replacements.

During the estimated two-and-a-half-week project, Yale Blvd. will be completely closed from the north side of the roundabout to Tucker Ave. The sidewalk on the west side of Yale Blvd. will be closed, as well the crosswalk on the north end of Yale Blvd. and the crosswalk at the UNM Observatory. The east entrance to the Observatory parking lot will also be closed.

The crosswalks at the roundabout will remain open, including the sidewalk on the east side of Yale Blvd. Detour signs will be installed to direct traffic around the construction site.

Intermittent lane closures will occur on Tucker Ave. Flagmen will be present to direct traffic at that time.

PPD is asking people to avoid the area if possible and please follow all detour and pedestrian traffic signs.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the project, contact Associate Director Willie West at (505) 277-0615 or Supervisor Juan Garcia at (505) 277-3272.
