The UNM Office for Equity and Inclusion (OEI) invites the UNM community for the second annual UNM Iftar, Wednesday, Aug. 24 at 7 p.m. in the UNM Student Union Building (SUB) Atrium to learn about Islam, Ramadan and the community breaking of the Ramadan fast from sunrise to sunset.

"Iftar" refers to the evening meal when Muslims break their fast during the Islamic month of Ramadan. It is often done as a community, when people break their fast together after sunset.

The event includes speakers on Ramadan and Islam as well as traditional Middle Eastern food from Sahara Middle Eastern Cafe. Non-Muslin students, faculty and staff are invited to fast for the day.

The 2011 UNM Iftar is presented by the OEI and co-sponsored by Muslim Student Association, Project for New Mexico Graduates of Color and World Student Alliance.
