Members of the campus community are invited to view the new Parish Memorial Library mural at an opening reception next month.

The reveal and reception will be held on Sept. 5 at 2 p.m. in the basement of Parish. It will celebrate the completion of a mural painted by Robbin Lou Bates over the course of the summer, titled “Arid, Mountainous and Roadrunner.”

Back in April, The University Libraries announced Bates as the winner of the Parish Memorial Library Mural Competition. Bates, an MFA student in the Painting & Drawing program, painted the mural under a Library skylight.

Her use of color was one of the things that caught the eyes of the mural selection committee. The group consisted of faculty and staff from the College of Fine Arts, and the library: Associate Professor Todd Quinn, Assistant Professor Stephanie Beene, Jonathan Hartshorn and Nancy Bennett.

Bates will be attending the reception and available to answer questions.
