UNM students have the opportunity to leave their mark on Parish Memorial Library by submitting proposals for a mural in the building.

The winning muralist will paint the design on a wall in the basement of Parish Memorial Library (PML), incorporating elements of the area, such as natural light from skylights and numerous study areas. The intention of the artwork is to portray Parish as a place for inspiration as visitors gather, study and reflect.

Proposals can be submitted through Feb. 28, 2018.

The Parish Library Mural project committee will select the competition winner, which could be an individual or a team. The winning artist or team will receive a $750 honorarium and up to $500 for supplies. The artist may select one of four designated walls in the library for the mural. The selected artist will paint the mural during the summer of 2018.

This project is for an impermanent mural, with a minimum lifetime of three years. The selected mural will be documented (artist’s notes, statements, photographs etc.) with the documentation retained in the University Libraries’ digital archive which is available to the public.

The artist(s) will also be publicly recognized by the library via its various news venues. All artists must be willing to participate in publicity and attend a reception celebrating the completion of the project.

Parish focuses on business and economics, and provides a range of resources, services and study spaces to UNM students. It is located on Las Lomas between University House and the Anderson School of Management.
