The UNM Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology hosts the 8th annual Riley O. Schaeffer Endowed Lectureship on Friday, Oct. 23 at 3:15 p.m. at the Science and Mathematics Learning Center Auditorium 102.

Professor of Chemistry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Thomas J. Meyer, will present “Finding the Way to Solar Fuels.”

Meyer is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He has won many prizes for chemical research. He is the leading researcher in subjects such as solar energy conversion, Artificial Photosynthesis, and solar fuels. Learn more about Meyer here.

The lectureship was established in 2008 in honor of Professor Riley Schaeffer through contributions from UNM faculty, his past students at Indiana University and UNM and friends and external colleagues.

Schaeffer came to UNM in 1981 where he served as Department of Chemistry Chair until 1976. He retired from the university in 1992.
