A run to benefit student scholarships in The University of New Mexico School of Engineering is sponsoring the Run Nerds Run! 5K race to raise funds for student scholarships. This year’s race will be Saturday, Sept. 10 from 8 to 9 a.m. on the UNM campus.

Registration for the races, as well as for those interested in volunteering, is now open at Run Nerds Run! - 5k.

The price is $35 per runner until Aug. 31, with discounts offered for group registrations. Runners get a free T-shirt and a race pack with gifts donated from sponsors. Details can be found on the registration website.

The 5K will begin and end at the Centennial Engineering Center.

Run participants will be encouraged to “dress like a nerd,” and prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place; fastest male runner; fastest female runner; coolest nerd outfit; most money raised as an individual; and most money raised as a team.

The goal of the run is to raise funds for the Visionaries of Infinite Potential scholarship endowment in the UNM School of Engineering. Those interested in donating can give online. Sponsors are also sought for the race.

Those interested in becoming a sponsor or who have general questions about the event can call (505) 289-1008 or email runnerdsrun5k@gmail.com.
