Join the University of New Mexico Cancer Center for the fifth annual Advocacy for Cancer Patients Seminar presents Cancer Patient Navigation Standards & Training Friday, Oct. 9 in the UNM Cancer Center Auditorium.

Co-founder of the Comadre a Comadre program and faculty member of the UNM College of Education (COE), Elba L. Saavedra is one of the featured speakers at this seminar, which focuses on the importance of patient navigation standards and training in today’s cancer center care delivery system, among other topics.

Saavedra is the director of Comadre a Comadre, a program housed in the UNM COE committed to raising awareness about breast health and breast cancer through the use of ethnically and racially diverse breast cancer survivors’ stories. Saavedra is also a NM Cancer Patient Navigation Network chairperson.

Also speaking are Mandi Pratt-Chapman and Anne Willis, directors at George Washington University Cancer Institute.

The seminar costs $100 to attend and includes a complimentary lunch. Attendance is free for UNM Health Sciences and School of Law students and faculty, as well as clients of Comadre a Comadre, members of the NM Cancer Council and clients of People Living through Cancer. Proceeds will benefit the Shannon J. Shaw Memorial Fund at UNM Cancer Center.
