Earlier this year, the University of New Mexico history department hosted the first regional conference under the American Historical Association's Mellon-funded Career Diversity for Historians initiative.

UNM Distinguished Professor of History Virginia Scharff took part in a conversation about it that is featured in the AHA's 'Perspectives on History.'

Last year, Scharff and History Department Chair Melissa Bokovoy announced the department's sharing in a $1.6 million grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation aimed at diversifying job opportunities for those who earn a Ph.D. in history.
