A 480 volt bus at the Lomas Chilled Water Plant has been damaged which may cause an unexpected outage to the facility. The Physical Plant Department (PPD) Utilities division will need to switch transformers in order to continue to provide service to the UNM campus. This “swap” is necessary in order to replace the section of damaged bus duct between the online 480 volt transformer and the breaker.

PPD Utilities will begin the transformer swap on Monday, July 10 beginning at 4 a.m., and is expected to take only one-hour. During this time, the Lomas Chilled Water Plant will be offline.

PPD would like the UNM community to know that the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) in many UNM buildings could be affected by this transfer. PPD does not anticipate any difficulties with this standard transfer, but in the event this does occur, buildings may feel warm until the Lomas Chilled Water Plant is back online.
