The UNM Dean of Students Office hosts a second "Campus Safety Walk" Thursday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. in Student Union Building Ballroom C. The walk begins with instructions at 7 p.m. followed by a walk around the campus at 7:30 p.m.
"We want to ensure the UNM community that safety is still our top priority," Kim Kloeppel, interim dean of students, said. "Safety walks are a good way to address concerns and also serve as a reminder to students, staff and visitors to be aware of their surroundings while on campus."
Participants walk around campus in teams identifying issues with campus lighting, emergency phones, landscape hazards and any other safety concerns they think need to be addressed.
The first safety walk, held in February, resulted in many work orders including repair of 300 light fixtures. More than 75 people participated in the February walk. Eliseo Torres, vice president for Student Affairs is hopeful the turn out for this walk will be as good or even better.
