Student Health and Counseling (SHAC) offers free flu shots on Nov. 7 and 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for Lobos 18-years and older, while supplies last. Walk-ins are welcome or appointments can be made by calling 505-277-3136.
SHAC's Take One for Raymond flu shots are dedicated to the memory of UNM student Raymond Plotkin, who passed away from the H1N1 virus in 2009. Raymond's parents established the Take One for Raymond Initiative and scholarship program to encourage everyone to get their seasonal flu shots.
Additionally, SHAC has entered into a flu shot challenge with other universities nationwide. To participate in the challenge, shot recipients are asked to fill out a quick five question survey online.
SHAC will be giving the quadrivalent vaccine, by injection, which is an inactivated influenza virus, not a live virus. The quadrivalent means that the shot is intended to provide coverage against four strains of flu this year.
