With cold and flu season on the horizon, The University of New Mexico's Student Health and Counseling (SHAC) will offer free flu shots for Lobos 18-years and older, while supplies last. Flu shots will be offered on Oct. 2 and Oct. 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the SUB Atrium. Walk-ins are welcome or appointments can be made by calling (505) 277-3136.

To encourage everyone to get their seasonal flu shots, SHAC’s Take One for Raymond flu shots are dedicated to the memory of UNM student Raymond Plotkin, who passed away from the H1N1 virus in 2009. Raymond’s parents established the Take One for Raymond Initiative and scholarship program to encourage Lobos to get their flu shots.

Additionally, SHAC is participating in Alana’s Flu Challenge, a national college and university flu shot challenge to increase flu vaccination rates among college students. Three institutions (one small, medium, and large) with the most amount of surveys completed will win the Alana Yaksich Memorial Trophy.

To participate in the challenge, flu shot recipients are asked to fill out a quick six question survey online.
