Join Sigma Xi for the Science and Society Distinguished Public Talk on Thursday, Nov. 19 at 5:30 p.m. in the UNM Conference Center Auditorium as they present guest speaker and physics Professor Joe Incandela.

Co-sponsored by the Albuquerque Section of the Institute of Electrical Engineers (IEEE) and its Life Members Affinity Group, Sigma Xi (the Scientific Research Society), the UNM Department of Physics and Astronomy, and the UNM Division of Continuing Education, the event features Professor Joe Incandela, the Joseph  Yzurdiaga Chair in Experimental Science and professor of physics at the University of California Santa Barbara.

Incandela was spokesperson for the compact muon solenoid (CMS) experiment, one of the two experiments at the European Organization for Nuclear Research’s (CERN) Large Hadron Collider that discovered the Higgs Boson in 2012. In 2013 he received the Special Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics (Milner Prize).

There will be a meet and greet with Incandela at 5 p.m. in the UNM Conference Center Auditorium, located at 1634 University Blvd. NE.

Pizza will be provided after the lecture.
