Donna Smith, director, Safety and Risk Services, was inducted into the University Risk Management and Insurance Association (URMIA) Board of Directors at the annual conference held in Pittsburg, Pa. recently. Smith will be the Board Liaison for the 2011 conference and will also be serve on the IAAC (Inter-Association Alliances Committee.)
URMIA is an international nonprofit educational association consisting of risk managers from higher education institutions throughout the country. The IAAC committee establishes partnerships with other higher education and professional organizations to share ideas and to show the value of risk management in higher education.
"Insurance and risk management is an ever-changing industry and it is important to stay on top of legal, financial, operational and compliance issues," said Smith. "Understanding the risk-related challenges that face universities is important to reduce incidents and claims, therefore reducing costs to the university".
