New students who love red and live green can still apply for UNM's first Sustainability Studies Living & Learning Community.

LLCs, part of UNM University College's Freshman Academic Choices, provide a student- and community-centered education during the critical first year of college. LLC students share an apartment-style dorm, take classes and form study groups together, and develop a support network with peers, residence hall advisors and teachers.

In the Sustainability Studies LLC, students will learn to apply the principles of sustainability to their everyday lives. The program will introduce students to various aspects of sustainability and connect them with opportunities to participate in local outreach and green internships.

This LLC focuses on creating a sustainable future that supports the triple bottom line of environmental health, social equity and economic vitality. It is led by Jessica Rowland, instructor, Sustainability Studies Program, and Andrew Marcum, teaching assistant, Research Service Learning Program and doctoral student, Department of American Studies.

Other LLCs include fine arts, engineering, health sciences, management, architecture & planning, international studies and biology.
