The UNM Staff Council begins a new Brown Bag lecture series Friday, March 27 with “Emergency Preparedness: We Are All Stakeholders.” The lecture, scheduled from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at the Faculty Staff Club, features UNM Emergency Manager Byron Piatt discussing emergency preparedness. Space is limited, and guests must RSVP to Mark Reynolds at reynolds@unm.edu.

A Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) through the International Association of Emergency Managers, and NMCEM through the New Mexico Emergency Management Association, Piatt has been the emergency manager at UNM for the last seven years.

Piatt is also the Commander of the NM-1 Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT). He has worked throughout New Mexico with EMS services, hospitals and local and state officials on emergency preparedness. He maintains licensure as an EMT-I and has served as a volunteer firefighter. Piatt holds both an MPA and a BBA in Finance from UNM.

The UNM Staff Council Brown Bag series will be held monthly on the last Friday. A special guest will present a discussion of a particular topic. Some future topics will include wellness, heart health, navigating social media, pet care issues and even learning a new dance step. The lecture series will be held at the Faculty Staff Club, located at 1923 Las Lomas Blvd. NE, north of Anderson School of Management. Interested attendees do not have to be a club member to attend. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lunch or purchase lunch at the club.
