May 4 may be a normal day for some, but for others, it is a day to celebrate all things Star Wars. Students gathered in the SUB Atrium on Wednesday to celebrate May the Fourth, otherwise known as Star Wars Appreciation Day.

Students and Star Wars fans alike celebrated at the annual event with fun activities such as a photo booth, Wookie cookie decorating, button making and taking photos with Star Wars characters. Light and dark side t-shirts were given away and the Mos Eisley Cantina gave away free drinks like Java the Hut and Sobe-Wan-Kenobi.

ASUNM President Elect Kyle Biederwolf said that this is one of the biggest spring events that Student Activities puts on. He said it’s an opportunity to give back and show student appreciation.

“The biggest thing that the Student Activities center wants to portray is that college is more than just going to class—There’s all these different clubs but there’s also fun—we can show up here today and appreciate Star Wars and get some free cookies,” said Biederwolf. “It’s just a ton of fun and I’m happy that Student Activities does this year after year.”

Biederwolf said the event changes every year and they like to get input on how they could improve it.
