STEM Gateway hosts the STEM Cultural Colloquium on Friday, April 1 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Student Union Building, Lobo A and B.
This one-day event brings together professionals from STEM initiatives across UNM’s campus. The colloquium allows these professionals to participate in conversation about how to best structure and implement STEM programs in the state for increased student success. The event focuses heavily on students who are from under-represented populations.
VP for Research and Economic Development at UNM, Gabriel Lopez opens the colloquium with "A Gateway to Diversity: The role of the research university in transforming the STEM pipeline."
Professor of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at the University of Texas, San Antonio, Laura Rendon will speak during the luncheon with her presentation, "The Importance of Working With A Culturally-Validating, Asset-Based Student Success Framework in STEM."
Concluding the colloquium is Emerita Professor of Chemistry at Louisiana State University, Saundra McGuire. Her presentation is titled, “"Metacognition: The Key to Changing Mindsets and Closing the Achievement Gap."
