Structure fire at UNM contained
AFD and UNM police respond to a call of smoke coming from a house at 1815 Sigma Chi Road.

Albuquerque Fire Department’s Arson Team is investigating a fire in a vacant house near the University of New Mexico campus Wednesday morning. AFD and UNM police received a call around 9:30 a.m. of smoke coming from a house at 1815 Sigma Chi Road.  Fire and police crews responded closing off the area to traffic and put out the flames within 10 minutes.

The house is not a UNM facility. It is owned by the Lambda Chi Alpha Alumni House Association and has been vacant for at least five years.  Melissa Romero, AFD Public Information Office, said, "it appears the fire was contained to one room within the house. No one was inside when crews responded."

Investigators have not said the fire is suspicious, but arson teams are looking into the cause.
