The Division of Student Affairs is launching a "We are Student Affairs" challenge at The University of New Mexico, to help students familiarize themselves with the university’s campus and administration. The challenge kicks off the first day of the fall 2016 semester, Monday, Aug. 22, and runs through the first day of homecoming week, Monday, Sept. 27.
The challenge encourages students to become more familiar with the departments, programs and services offered throughout the Division including their physical locations.
“With twenty-five departments employing over 1,000 staff, faculty and student employees, the Division of Student Affairs is the hub for student-focused programs and services,” says Vice President Eliseo “Cheo” Torres. “Our Division offers several programs and services geared toward enhancing our students learning and living experiences—many of which are unique and might not be known to all students.”
The We are Student Affairs challenge is a printed board which includes a question about each of the departments housed under the Student Affairs umbrella. Challenge boards are available for download on the Student Affairs website and will also be distributed during UNM’s annual Welcome Back Days celebration, or can be picked up in any of the Student Affairs departments.
Students who answer the questions correctly will have the chance to win special UNM prizes such as a guest coach spot at the UNM Homecoming football game on Saturday, Oct. 1; one free month of UNM parking, $100 in LoboCash; and Student Affairs memorabilia. Students are given a little over a month to complete the challenge and are asked to turn in completed boards to the Vice President for Student Affairs Office located in Scholes Hall (Rm. 229) by 5 p.m.
Detailed instructions are provided on the board. In order to finish the challenge students must correctly answer every question verbally in the department where it originates, obtain an official department signature on every square, and complete all of the social media challenges. Contest winners will be announced on the UNM Student Affairs Facebook page on Wednesday, Sept. 28.
“We hope that this challenge will help students learn more about what our Division does and have a little fun doing it,” Torres said.
