The University of New Mexico's Student Union Building will hold its 7th annual Halloween celebration Wednesday, Oct. 31 in the atrium on the Plaza level of the SUB. Registration for the contest begins at 10:30 a.m., while judging begins at 1:30 p.m. The event is free for all UNM students and will include a pumpkin carving contest, Halloween-themed food and entertainment.

"We are pleased to hold the Pumpkin Carving Contest in the SUB each year," said Walt Miller, associate vice president of Student Life. "I look forward to seeing UNM students, faculty and staff participate in the competition. It is a great to see camaraderie in the Union."

This year, the SUB Marketing Department's Pumpkin Carving Contest is cosponsored with Student Special Events. The event is a Halloween celebration that brings the UNM community together with opportunities to win prizes, enjoy free food and entertainment including DJ Carlos B, who will take stage from 12 - 1 p.m.

Contestants, including students and departments, will be judged separately on craftsmanship, creativity and originality.

Charles Jiron, one of this year's judges said, "Every year, I have seen numerous masterpieces presented and I am anxiously waiting to see what this year's students' creativity will bring to this festive occasion."

Winners will be announced at 2 p.m. and awarded gift certificates donated by local vendors.
