UNM’s annual Hanging of the Greens is just a week away, beckoning in the holiday season – a long awaited gathering coming off a year where COVID-19 changed the way students, staff, faculty and the campus community celebrated our most sacred traditions.

This year’s event will be held Friday, Dec. 3 beginning at 5:30 p.m. in front of the UNM Bookstore. Everyone will be encouraged to carol at their own pace as they tour UNM’s main campus decorated with more than 13,000 luminarias.

Last year – due to COVID-19 – UNM's oldest student-run tradition was held virtually. The Student Activities Center (SAC) and Mortar Board Association are excited to be in-person this year to help ignite the holiday spirit.

"While we are thrilled to once again be back on campus for Hanging of the Greens – an event that we know has brought so much joy to the community for more than 70 years - we want to keep the tradition and diffuse the crowds to make it safe and comfortable for everyone who will be caroling throughout campus," said Noah Lucero, UNM Mortar Board chapter president.
