The University of New Mexico Air Force ROTC Warhawk Booster Club holds a four man scramble golf tournament Saturday, April 28, at the Tijeras Arroyo Golf Course. Proceeds benefit Warhawk Booster Club which supports activities focused on student development and leadership.
Registration begins at 11 a.m. on the day of the tournament. Pre-registration ends Friday, April 20.
The $200 entry fee for each four person team includes 18 holes of golf, a riding cart, range balls, dinner and a chance to win prizes. Mulligans will be sold the day of the tournament.
The Tijeras Arroyo Golf Course is located at Building 28054 Kirtland Air Force Base, N.M. 87117. Air Force Base access is required to play.
UNM AFROTC Commander Lt. Col. Raul Garcia said that he appreciates the efforts of the booster club, which supports many initiatives including providing financial aid for cadets in need and purchasing t-shirts for incoming freshmen – they don't have uniforms.
Garcia said, "This year, the cadets also decided they would use their resources to purchase awards. That represents about $500 that won't be coming out of Office of Student Affairs funds."
Garcia said that managing the booster account is a learning tool for the cadets. "We graduated a contracting officer recently who is in charge of millions of dollars. Learning how to manage resources and prioritize expenses within an organization is a critical skill."
