The University of New Mexico Art Museum presents Kirsten Buick in a public talk about Civil War photography Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 5:30 p.m. in the museum's main gallery. The lecture is part of the ongoing Distinguished Professor Series.

Buick, associate professor and Chair of the Dept. of Art and Art History at UNM, discusses Matthew Brady's 1862 Civil War photograph of Capt. George Custer sitting with Lt. James B. Washington, a Confederate prisoner. Buick outlines reasons why bitter rivals, in this case Confederate and Union soldiers, may in fact share more similarities than differences.
