University of New Mexico faculty Rosalie C. Otero, A. Gabriel Melendez, Enrique R. Lamadrid, Miguel Gandert, will be at the UNM Bookstore Wednesday, Sept. 15 at 1 p.m. to discuss and sign copies of Santa Fe Nativa: A Collection of Nuevomexicano Writing (UNM Press). The event is free and open to the public.
The belief that land is sacred, embodying the memory and inheritance of those who sacrificed to settle it, is common among New Mexican Hispanos, or Nuevomexicanos, and Santa Fe serves as a geographic and symbolic center. The city will celebrate its 400th anniversary in 2010 and Santa Fe Nativa honors its role as the foundation of New Mexican Hispanic culture.
Rosalie C. Otero is the director of the University Honors Program, and associate dean of University College. A. Gabriel Melendez is professor of American studies; Enrique R. Lamadrid is a literary folklorist and cultural historian in the Department of Spanish & Portuguese; and Miguel A. Gandert is a professor in the Department of Communication & Journalism.
The UNM Bookstore is located at 2301 Central Ave. NE at the intersection of Cornell and Central. Parking will be validated in the parking structure for up to one hour with purchase. Please call Lisa Walden at 505-277-7494 or email email@example.com for more information.
