In light of the current health crisis, the UNM Bookstore has revised its previous textbook rental return procedures and deadlines in order to adhere to the most recent public health guidelines and the University’s continued limited operations status.

Considering these circumstances, the previous May 16 textbook return deadline has been extended through May 20. Each student who rented textbooks from the UNM Bookstore or the Medical/Legal Bookstore for use during the Spring 2020 semester will receive a personalized email from the UNM Bookstore textbook department, textbook@unm.edu, with their list of outstanding rental titles.

Students on Athletic Book Scholarship will receive separate information regarding the return of their Spring 2020 textbooks as details are finalized. All other students with outstanding textbook rentals may choose to drop-off, ship back free of charge or purchase their current rentals as determined below.

Please note: If a textbook is not returned or converted to purchase by the May 20 deadline, the corresponding replacement fees will be applied to the student account on file per the Bookstore Rental Agreement.

Drive-through/drop-off
UNM Bookstore is currently planning to operate a drive-through/drop-off event at the main campus Bookstore during main campus finals week, May 15-16, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This return option is available for Albuquerque-area students who wish to return their textbooks in person.

Ship UPS
All students with outstanding rentals will be emailed a prepaid UPS shipping label on April 29. This return label can be printed at home or at the UPS store (with provided email). Only one prepaid shipping label will be provided per student. Textbook rentals may be shipped beginning April 29 until May 20. All textbook rentals must be received at the main campus Bookstore no later than June 5.

Rental to Purchase
Students who prefer to keep their textbooks instead of returning them may convert their rental to a purchase. To purchase a rental, students will need to pay the difference between the rental price and the purchase price of each textbook. Students may request a quote for textbook rental to purchase price and may begin the process of converting rentals to purchase through our Spring 2020 Rental Return/Information Form.

As a reminder, rental textbooks that are not returned or converted to purchase will be considered “not returned” and the student account on file will be charged a replacement fee equal to the cost of a new textbook, per our Rental Agreement. The UNM Bookstore encourages students to visit its Spring 2020 Rental Return/Information Form or contact the Bookstore’s textbook department via email at text@bookstore.unm.edu with any questions or concerns about any of these textbook return or purchase options.
