Capital & Spaces Strategies, The University of New Mexico's division responsible for managing resources for institutional space, facility physical assets and capital resources, will transition to the new FAMIS Cloud platform on Monday, Aug. 24. This new platform is designed to streamline the space management process and improve the facility data available to understand our capital needs.
“My vision is to leverage data of both space function and use and the facility condition assessments to build a data-driven model for the development of the University’s capital needs,” said Tabia Allred, the planning officer who leads UNM's Capital & Space Strategies division. “The FAMIS platform is a facilities data and space planning tool that will help the University to optimize our facility data across UNM’s campuses.”
FAMIS, the cloud-based facilities lifecycle management solution, is purpose-built for education institutions like UNM and is easy to use, easy to implement and continuously updated with new functionality.
“In the current environment, we are being asked to do more with less,” explains Allred. “Money for repairs and capital requests often falls down the budget priority list, leading conditions to deteriorate even further. In such a lean environment, things can break, leading to safety issues, unplanned downtime and emergency repairs.”
The FAMIS Cloud migration will help improve space tracking across The University. The system will be used to update the physical space information on multiple levels in the location hierarchy, providing improved organization-wide space management capabilities. “All of this data will help towards more efficient management of space,” said Allred.
The Capital & Space Strategies division collaborates with numerous departments across campus to track and support maximizing UNM’s space. Designated staff members from these collaborating departments will begin using the new system along with the rest of the Capital & Space Strategies team. Training videos on how to use the new system are available on the FAMIS website.
