UNM celebrates staff: 'The Heart of the University for 125 Years'

UNM continues to celebrate 125 years. This month, the celebration continues with Staff Appreciation Month. Throughout July, there will be events for all staff members to participate in.

The first big event is the annual Book Exchange, which is set for Tuesday, July 8 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This event will be held at three locations: Student Union Building, Lobo A & B (main campus), Domenici West, Room 2112 (north campus), SSSC, Room 1008 (south campus). Hundreds of titles and media items will be available to choose from at each location.

On Thursday, July 10, it’s "Fill the Plaza with UNM Staff" Day. At 9:45 a.m. in Smith Plaza, a picture will be taken from the Humanities Building and the giant "125 " numbers will be used as props. Bring your friends and co-workers to fill the Plaza for a picture.

The Staff Council Happy Hour is set for Friday, July 11, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Faculty Staff Club. UNM staff is invited to enjoy a cash bar for alcohol and soft drinks. Reservations are not needed and you do not need to be a club member to attend. The Faculty Staff Club is located on 1923 Las Lomas Blvd. NE, just north of Anderson School of Management. A Staff Appreciation 125th Anniversary Sock Hop will be held Friday, July 18 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the Continuing Education building in the North Building conference rooms B&C. This event begins with a free Zumba class; then come and a dance to decades of great music. Kick off your shoes, pull up your socks and join the fun dancing and listening to 125 years of music. Admission is free with a UNM staff ID card. A pulled pork sandwich dinner will also be available for $5 (cash only). The UNM Continuing Education building is located at 1634 University Blvd., NE.

The ever-popular Loborrito Breakfast, served up by UNM staff councilors, is set for Thursday, July 24 from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at the UNM Student Union Building, Ballrooms B&C, and on the UNM Health Sciences Center (HSC) Plaza.

On Saturday, July 26, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. it’s the annual Staff Appreciation Picnic. Tickets for the picnic at the Rio Grande Zoo are still on sale, but going fast. Tickets are $10 each (children under the age of 2 are free) and cover admission to the zoo, a BBQ dinner (vegetarian option available), animal exhibits and a concert. Finally, an Ice Cream Social sponsored by the UNM Athletics Department will be held Thursday, July 31 from 12 to 1 p.m. at two location including Dominguez Plaza in front of Zimmerman Library on main campus and at the HSC Plaza on north campus. Admission is free with a UNM staff ID card.
